Exceptional Wine List
Tuscan-toned red walls punctuated with period Italian photos help to summon up a genuine native mood in Giuseppe Turi’s redoubtable Putney showpiece, and you can get a taste of things to come from the organic Delfico olive oil and bread that kick-start proceedings here. Directly imported provisions are touchstones for the kitchen’s endeavours and Turi is well-versed in his homeland’s regional foodie heritage as well as its cultural roots. Strong seasonal flavours shine through, whether it’s a Piedmontese salad of marinaded rabbit with asparagus, chicory and zolfino beans or a ‘secondo’ of roast John Dory fillet with artichoke and tarragon risotto. Pasta is also a good shout – perhaps pappardelle with duck ragu’ or orecchiette with rapini (turnip broccoli), anchovy, chilli and toasted breadcrumbs. True to its name, Enoteca gives an outstanding account of the regional Italian wine scene across the board, and everything on the awe-inspiring 300-bin wine list is thoughtfully annotated with fascinating tasting notes. Prices start at £17.50 (£6 a glass).
