Exceptional Wine List
Turn up early or pray your guest is late at long-standing Putney restaurant, Enoteca Turi:
you will need – or, rather want – plenty of time to pore over the 300 bin wine list (and perhaps
knock back that sneaky first glass). This is Italian oenophile heaven, with a thoughtfully
annotated list (from £19.50) drawn from top to toe of “the boot”, and with major producers well represented. By-the-glass recommendations aren’t foisted on guests; they’re discreetly marked on the inspired regional Italian menu. Giuseppe Turi himself is involved in the kitchen so you will feel the spirit of his native Puglia in homemade orecchiette with turnips tops, alongside influences from elsewhere in the form of, say, baked Sardinian artichoke with deep-fried egg and Parmesan, and guineafowl breast with Savoy cabbage and “peara” Veronese bread sauce. Dessert could be ricotta cake with candied fruit and hot chocolate sauce.
